ANOTHER AGED MOTHER CALLED BY DEATH
Grim Death marched into the Richards home here early Monday morning and took from it the mother of the family, Mrs. Jane N. Richards, wife of the late Thomas Richards and revered mother of the large family of children, most of whom survive her.
Following a very serious illness several years ago, Mrs. Richards health has been pretty good and particularly so this summer until a short time ago when she suffered a general breakdown which finally terminated in her death.
Mrs. Richards was born in this city on October 31, 1853, the daughter of Dr. Calvin Crane Pendleton and Sally Ann Newbury. She was reared here amid the conditions incident to early pioneer life, and was married before she was twenty to Thomas Richards. Eleven children were born to them nine of whom survive her, the other two, boys, having died in infancy. Her surviving children are: Clarence Richards, Mrs. Olive R. Burton, Mrs. Mary R. Bentley, Mrs. Jennie R. Jensen, and Miss Rozilla Richards, all residing at Parowan, Mrs. Lottie R. Pendleton and the Misses Nora and Ada Richards who reside in Denver, Colorado and Kate Richards who resides in Los Angeles. Other relatives who are left to mourn her parting are a sister, Mrs. Sarah Connell, two brothers William and Freeman Pendleton, and some half brothers and sisters whose names we did not learn.
Time has not yet been set for the funeral services because of the uncertaintity as to when members of the family will arrive, but it quite likely will be tomorrow afternoon or Friday.
The sympathy of the community goes out to the bereaved ones in their hour of sorrow.
