Jean Elizabeth Hare, 82, of Neodesha, Kansas, died Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at the Golden Living Center, Neodesha, Kansas.
She was born August 15, 1926, in Elk City, Kansas, the daughter of Luman Birch and Elizabeth Pearl (Buchanan) Newton.
She received her education in Elk City.
On August 7, 1943, she was united in marriage to Lawrence Luzion Hare in Fredonia, Kansas. He preceded her in death in 1994.
She served as a custodian and bus driver for USD 461 for many years and also a cook for area nursing homes.
She was a member of the Bethel Church of God.
Survivors include three sons, Jerald and wife Linda, of Neodesha, KS, Clifford of Lafontaine, KS, and Rodney and wife Brenda, of Neodesha, KS; one daughter, Carol Gaines and husband Stephen, of Moore, OK; one sister, Mary Springer of Phoenix, AZ; two brothers, Lyman Newton of Elk City, KS, and Roger Newton of Sonoma, AZ; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Nancy Fuller; four brothers, Homer, Forest, John, and Dale; one sister, Dorothy; and one nephew who was raised as her brother, Gary Tucker.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 18, 2009, at the Bethel Church of God under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Loran Fawcett Chapel. Pastor Eldon Myers will officiate. Interment will be in Shelly (-Bethel) Cemetery near Neodesha, KS.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Church of God and may be left at the funeral home.
