WOOD RIVER — Bryan "Dick" Fisher, 97, of Wood River died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013.

Graveside services with full military honors will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell. All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Fisher was born Feb. 9, 1917, to William and Ella (Belders) Fisher.

Survivors of the immediate family include his wife of 65 years, Hazel (Beth) Fisher of Wood River; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard Z. Fisher of Scotia and Daryl and Susan Fisher of Shelton; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Barbara Dorn, Kathy and Leo Wortman, all of Wood River, and Karry and Larry Jensen of Cairo; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 14 brothers and sisters, two grandsons, Ryan Fisher and Billy Fisher.

Dick grew up on a farm in Custer County. In 1941 he entered the United States Army and served in the South Pacific Theater until his discharge on Oct. 15, 1945.

On June 30, 1948, he married Hazel Elizabeth (Beth) McAlevy; to this union five children were born. Dick worked as a heavy equipment operator in Custer County until the family moved to Wood River in 1967, then he spent 30 years working for Knoell Construction. He continued to work and run heavy equipment until he was 79 years old. In his free time Dick enjoyed carpentry, woodworking and metal fabrications. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
