Hanappi, Gerhard, b. Vienna, Feb. 16, 1929, d. Vienna, Aug. 23, 1980, soccer player, architect. Initially played for Wacker club, 1948-1965 with Rapid Wien. Played in the national team more often (93 times) than any other Austrian soccer player except A. Polster. In 1953 in the FIFA-team, in 1954 participation in the world championship (Austria came in third); his work as an architect included the Viennese Soccer Stadium (named after him after his death).
