A funeral will be held Thursday for John J. Baglini, 89, of 1099 Hartford Ave., a retired teacher, who was fatally injured Saturday afternoon when he was struck by a car while attempting to cross Hartford Avenue at Borden Avenue.
Mr. Baglini died at Rhode Island Hospital less than two hours after the 11:40 a.m. accident.
Mr. Baglini had taught in Providence schools for 35 years, and also taught in the Cranston, Johnston and North Providence school systems and at Cheshire Academy in Connecticut.
He was graduated from Providence College in 1924. He was awarded a master's degree in education by Boston College in 1928, and a master's degree in science from the former Rhode Island College of Education, now Rhode Island College, in 1941.
He also studied at the Yale University Graduate School and at the Sorbonne, Paris.
Mr. Baglini was the husband of the former Lena Pilotti.
His first wife was the late Bilva (Almonte) Baglini.
He was a member of the Golden Friars Society of Providence College and the Legion of Mary of St. Rocco's Church.
Born in Pisa, Italy, he was a son of the late Joseph and Massimina (Cateni) Baglini. He came to this country in 1903, and lived in the Stillwater area of Smithfield and later in Providence before moving to Johnston 50 years ago.
Besides his wife he is survived by a son, a daughter and a brother.
