Zuella T. Atkins, 76, of Cartersville, died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011.Mrs. Atkins was born Jan. 25, 1935, in Bartow County, a daughter of the late Johnny D. Tidwell and Lucy House Tidwell.

She was a 1952 honor graduate of Cass High School, where she was a charter member of the Beta Club. She was of the Baptist faith and was baptized at Oak Grove Baptist Church in 1948. Zuella worked in the banking industry for 12 years and later in office management for 20 years. She was active in church and community work and enjoyed sewing, cooking and gardening.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Hardy Lee Atkins Sr.; her children and their spouses, Andrea Sue Atkins of Cartersville, Hardie Lee Atkins II and wife Kay, of Cartersville, Debbie Johnette Atkins Duncan and husband Stephen, of Gulf Shores, Ala.; special niece, Pat Cooper; her grandchildren, Brandon Ty Huskins and Tamika Huskins, Camron Creg Huskins and Tosha Huskins, April Michelle Sneed, Savannah Lee Atkins, Wesley Crump Jr. and Ashley Crump; and her great-grandchildren, Hallie Ann Huskins, Steven Huskins, Nevan Huskins, Branton Huskins, Hayden Huskins, Bentlie Sneed, Cole Crump and Marley Crump. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Corine Tidwell Cornwell, and her brothers, Earl D. Tidwell and Arthur Lee Tidwell.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, from the Chapel of the Owen Funeral Home with Dr. Don Hattaway and Rev. Jimmy Day officiating. Interment will follow in Cassville cemetery.Active pallbearers will be C.L. Tidwell, Jimmy Tidwell, Eugene House, Clyde House, Doug Cornwell and Weldon Tidwell.Honorary pallbearers will be Judy and Bill Millis, Doug and June Carey, Jack and Marth Ireland, Jimmy and June Day, Betty and Jerry Thompson, Billy Wayne Cornwell and Beverly Carroll.In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to your preferred church or favorite charity.
