Lauriston Consul Fish in 1921 became the oldest resident and selectman of Amherst, Mass. when he celebrated his 90th birthday. He was presented a gold-headed cane by the selectmen of that town. It was the custom to give the use of the cane to the oldest citizen of the town. He was the oldest member of the Baptist church, which he joined 1856 and where he served as a deacon for 12 years. He still walked a mile to church and helped in the Amherst Creamery, managed by his son, Charles, T. Fish. Mr. Fish was born in Shutesbury, the son of Lewis Brigham and Polly Fish, he moved to Amherst from Hadley around 1861. Mr. Fish married in 1864, Miss Laura Ingham of Amherst, who was born in Sandisfield, Mass. Besides his son, Charles Thomas Fish, he leaves two daughters, Miss Mary A. Fish and Miss Hattie Fannie Fish all of Amherst. He also has a brother, Edwin Fish of Amherst, and a sister, Mrs. James Spear of Williamsburg.

(NOTE: I don't know why Mary Ann Tower Fish was left out of Lauriston's obituary, but they were only married for 3 years before her death at the age of 25. They had no children.)
