Alfred C. Schmidt, 83, died July 7, 1990, at St. Joseph's Hospital Hospice Care Unit, Marshfield. Funeral services were July 11 at First United Church of Christ, Colby. Rev. Kenneth Dix officiated and burial will be in the Colby Memorial Cemetery.
Alfred Charles Schmidt was born September 30, 1906, in Marathon county to the late Charles and Louise (Herrmann) Schmidt. He graduated from Abbotsford High School in 1924 and attended a Farm short course at the UW-Madison for one year.
Mr. Schmidt married Kathleen Weise June 30, 1952, and she died August 12, 1984. He farmed in the Town of Johnson from 1940 until retiring in 1989. He also raised mink, and was teller at the Bank of Athens-Milan Branch for 26 years. He served as treasurer for the Town of Johnson for 18 years and was a member of the Milan School Board for many years. He was a member of United Church of Christ in Athens and had served as church treasurer.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Wesley (Ellen) Whipple, Mifflinburg, Penn., two sons James Schmidt, Colby, and Edwin Schmidt, Athens; two brothers, Galen Schmidt, Pittsford N.Y., and Vernon Schmidt, Rockford, Ill., and seven grandchildren.
