Matthew J. Wakefield, 19, of Colesville, N.Y., was taken from us unexpectedly early Tuesday, April 12, 2005. He was walking to his fiancee to prove his undying love for her when he was struck and killed by a 2003-2006 year model Volvo tractor-trailer of an unknown color. He was born May 3, 1985 in Portland, Oreg. He was a graduate of John Adams High School and planned to attend Broome Community College, Binghamton, N.Y., to become a History teacher. He was also a member of Maranatha Fellowship in St. Albans, W. Va. He had so many plans for life and tried to give everyone the world, except for himself. He was the leader and founder of an online gaming clan, called Dark Army Clan (DAC), and was respected by all those involved in the online gaming world. He is survived by his finacee, Debra L. Singer, Hallstead, Pa.; mother and stepfather, Kim and John Cochran of Sissonville, W.Va.; and several friends from all over the world, that he considered family. I love you and miss you so very much, always and forever. You truly were my better half. In your very own words, "Thank you my love, I wish I would have done more for you to show you how much I care!" He was the greatest man alive and will be greatly missed and loved by all who knew him.
Services were held Sunday, April 17, 2005, at Bartlett-Chapman Funeral Home, St. Albans. W.Va. Burial was at Culloden Cemetery in Culloden, W.Va. Anyone with information about the hit and run may call the Sheriff's Office at (607)778-1911 or (607)778-1196.
