Other survivors include a son, Kevin Wilges, Wapakoneta, a daughter, Karen (Bill) Jacobs, Wapakoneta, 3 grandchildren, Bill Jacobs III, Brandon Schreiber and Jessica Jacobs, a brother, Richard Wilges, a sister, Donna Richardson, numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Robert, Herman Jr., Orval Dean, and Charles Wilges, and a sister Lucille Bitler.
Paul began his career with the Wapakoneta Fire Dept. in 1969 and he retired as a captain in 1991. He then became attendant of the Zink Farm Compost Facility in Wapakoneta, which he truly enjoyed. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Wapakoneta. His other memberships included the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie #691, and the American Legion Post #330, both of Wapakoneta. His hobbies included woodworking, word puzzles, having coffee in the morning at Marathon, but most especially spending time with his family.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wed. Dec. 18, 2013, at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, St. Rt. 501, Wapakoneta. Pastor Kimberly Pope-Seiberling officiating. Burial is to follow in the Buckland Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the Wapakoneta V.F.W. Post #8445.
