The son of Stanislaus Bernard "Stanley" Pohlman and Mary Emma Fortschneider, George served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was wounded during the war and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was a sergeant when he received his discharge from the service.

George married (Living) Hawkins on 31 Jul 1954 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. They were the parents of 5 children.

George worked as a pipefitter for Owens-Illinois Glass in Madison County, Illinois. He was employed at the glass works for 34 years and retired in 1981.

He was a member of several civic and social organizations. He belonged to the Wood River Moose 1349, the Wood River VFW and the Owens-Illinois Credit Union board. He volunteered as a little league baseball manager and was named Khoury League manager of the year several times.

George was a member of St. Kevin's Catholic Church for 40 years.

George died 10 days before what would have been his 75th birthday. He passed away at St. Anthony's Hospital.

He was survived by his wife; 1 daughter and son-in-law of Atlanta, Georgia; 3 sons and 2 daughters-in-law, Danny Pohlman and his wife of Bethalto, Illinois, (Living) Pohlman of St. Louis, Missouri, and (Living) Pohlman and his wife of Rosewood Heights, Illinois; 10 grandchildren; 3 brothers and 3 sisters-in-law; 2 sisters and 1 brother-in-law; and 1 daughter-in-law, (Living) Pohlman of Edwardsville, Illinois.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by 1 son, Michael G. Pohlman; and 4 sisters.

Visitation was held on 24 Sep 2006 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Bethalto. Funeral services were conducted there at 10 a.m. the following morning. Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights was in charge of arrangements.

The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to the St. Louis University School of Medicine for Anatomical Science and Education.
