"Harriet Ann George was born in Greensburg, Kansas, the daughter of William Lynn and Rhuy K. McMurry. She grew up on the family farm near Mullinville, Kansas with her beloved brothers and sisters.

Harriet graduated from Mullinville High School in 1947.

The love of her life and future husband, Simmie George, spotted her from atop an oil rig erected on a lot adjacent to her high school. He pursued her relentlessly, much to her father's dismay. Simmie won her heart and on August 21, 1948 they were married at the McMurry family home.

Losing infant daughter Sharon Lee in 1950, Robert and Barbara joined the family in the next two years, then Cindy in 196o. Harriet proved her dedication to her children in many ways including rising at 4:30 AM every day for 4 years to assist the junior entrepreneurs with newspaper routes and contributing at school as a room mother and enthusiastic supporter of all things extracurricular.
She also stood by and supported Simmie through multiple surgery and recovery periods.

Harriet worked for Drs. Bradley and Waldorf for over 20 years. She spent many hours volunteering at church, in the community and as a frequent blood donor, giving a gift from the heart of more than 8 gallons of blood to the Red Cross.

In retirement, Harriet enjoyed bus trips across the country and cruises to Alaska, the Panama Canal and the Caribbean with family or friends, often as an excuse to square dance, a favorite pastime.
Her seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren became the .joy of her life. 'They looked forward to summertime with grandma, cooking, swimming, climbing down and up the Big Well, and enjoying the entire menu treats at the Rexall Drugstore soda fountain.
Her greatest pleasures were family gatherings centered on her delectable cooking, fellowship and outstanding bridge games.

In 2004, after 53 years in Greensburg, Harriet and Simmie moved to Olathe, Kansas to be close to their children and grandchildren. There she made many new friends over the card tables in couples and ladies bridge groups. Accolades came from her new friends when admirers of Harriet's needlework solicited its display in the gallery halls of Aberdeen Village. Her courage arid dignity even through debilitating Alzheimer's and cancer is an example for us all. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed."
