Dorothy Margaret Bumgardner, 98, died at 6:05 a.m. on Friday, December 13, 2013 at Regency Nursing Care Residence. Ms. Bumgardner was born August 12, 1915 in Chatham, Illinois to Alfred Orin and Sarah Marie Ballweg Bumgardner.
She is survived by one half-brother, Melvin Bumgardner of Tacoma, Washington; several nieces and nephews; and several cousins including Ann Charland of Springfield.
Ms. Bumgardner was preceded in death by her parents; half brother Alfred Orin Bumgardner, and cousin, Virginia Bomke.
Dorothy Bumgardner was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she was an active member of Grace Circle. She was a member of Home Extension and a lifelong member of The Order of The Eastern Star. She attended many reunions in Chatham through the years. She was a schoolteacher at Dan Jones School, North Pawnee, and at Sugar Creek School. She did substitute teaching until 1973 when she retired to help her dad with his gardening of the family farm.
Funeral service: 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 16, 2013 at Grace Lutheran Church. Pastor Thomas Christell officiated. Burial followed at Chatham Community Cemetery.
