Killed in Action

Frank Alvarado enlisted for military service in Monterey, California in October 1941.

He was an original member of the First Special Service Force, and was killed in action on 4 December 1943 in the battle of Mt. La Difensa in Italy.

The remains of Technician 5th Grade, Frank S Alvarado, were brought back to the United States aboard the US Army transport Eric G. Gibson in Jan/Feb of 1949 and he was re-interred 14 March 1949.

In July 2013, the Congressional Gold Medal was awarded, collectively, to the First Special Service Force, in recognition of its superior service during World War II.

On February 3, 2015 surviving FSSF Veterans were in Washington DC to accept this momentous recognition on behalf of their fellow Forcemen who could not be there.
