COLUMBIA, Dec. 15 (Special) -- Hugh Wroten Seal, who had served as Caldwell Parish clerk of court for 20 years, died here at his home Monday at 2 a.m. He was 52.

Seal, a native of Mississippi, was first elected clerk of court in 1932 and has been reelected without opposition for five successive times.

Death was attributed to a heart attack.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Loula Mae Bridger Seal, to whom he was wed in 1919; his father, J. H. Seal, of Inglewood, Calif.; a sister, Miss Izora Seal of Inglewood; two nephews, Wayne and Bobby Seal, also of Inglewood; and a brother, Hilton Seal of Rivera, Calif.

Funeral services will be held at the First Methodist Church here at 3 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Sam Holliday officiating. Burial will be in the Columbia cemetery.

Death of a well-liked civic leader drew comment today from Judge Mouser of the 28th judicial district who said: "He was the best clerk of court I have ever known, and an outstanding citizen of whom any country could be proud -- an ideal product of the American way of life."

Seal came to Caldwell Parish in early manhood and was first in the abstracting business before running for clerk of court.

He was a member of the local Masonic lodge, a member of the Methodist Church, and was active in a number of other civic groups.
