Cynthia J. Pierce, 28, of Elk Point died Sunday in a Sioux City hospital after collapsing while playing softball in Sioux City. Services will be at 11 AM Wednesday in the Elk Point United Methodist Parish. The Rev. David Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Elk Point Cemetery. A prayer service will be 8 pm today at the church. The Anderson Funeral Home of Elk Point is in charge. Miss Pierce was born Sept 20, 1956 in Vermillion. She graduated from Elk Point High School and attended Dakota State College and the University of South Dakota. She moved to Sioux City where she was employed by the YWCA as a swimming instructor for 5 years. In 1984 she returned to Elk Point where she managed the Elk Point Swimming Pool and also was an assistant cook in the Elk Point School System. Miss Pierce was active in Summer league sports in Sioux City and had coached the Elk Point ESA Girls softball team for the last two years. She was a member of the Elk Point United Parish, Elk Point Jayceettes and the YWCA in Sioux City.
Survivors include her parents, Dale and Joan Pierce of Elk Point; two brothers: Roger of Jefferson, and Mike of Sioux Falls; three sisters: Mrs. Roger (Patty) Skinner and Mrs. Rodney (Shirley) Rosenbaum both of Elk Point, and Mrs. Maureen Draper of Sioux Falls; and her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Gwen Wilkins of Bath, England
