Funeral services for Marilyn Sue Sharp, 61, of Palestine will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, December 16, 2013 at Southside Baptist Church in Palestine with Reverend Edward Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Pilgrim Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
Mrs. Sharp passed away on Friday, December 13, 2013 at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
She was born on September 25, 1952 in Palestine to Robert Matthews and Lula Chapman Matthews. She lived her entire life in Palestine and was a faithful member of Memory Lane Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Sharp devoted her time to her church as well as her family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was a very caring and compassionate person who never knew a stranger. Mrs. Sharp worked 25 years at Stage Stores Inc. where she was a Quality Control Manager. She was preceded in death by her father, sister Nona Coborn, and brother Robert Glen Matthews.
Survivors include her mother; husband of 25 years, JM Sharp of Palestine; sons Robert Lee Barron and wife Tonya of Palestine and Ricky Sharp and wife Nilda of Big Sandy; daughter Cheryl Sharp of Lake Palestine; brothers William Matthews and wife Susan of Grapeland and John Mark Matthews and wife Tammy of Odessa; sisters Carolyn Johnson and husband Andy of Yantis and Shirley Howell and husband Charles of Mansfield; grandchildren Dillan Broyles, Hollie Barron, Caleb Sharp, Aaron Sharp, Kimberly Sharp, Chris Sharp, and Jamie Sharp; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members.
Pallbearers will include Shane Matthews, Jim Matthews, Russell McSwane, Danny Plunkett, Mitchel Herbrough, James Grundy, and Gough Grubbs.
Visitation will be held at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home on Sunday, December 15, 2013 from 4:00-6:00pm.
