A memorial service for Arthur G. Alm, 90 Riverview Place, Fargo, will be held Friday, January 30 at 2 p.m. in the chapel at Riverview Place, with interment to follow Saturday, January 31, at Trinity Church Cemetery, in Binford. He died January 23, 1998, while visiting his family in Asheville, NC.

Art Alm was born January 28, 1908, to Hans and Anne Alm. He graduated from Binford High School and taught school in Griggs County, prior to receiving his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from NDSU in 1933.
He married May Curran in June of 1937. He worked for the Fargo Foundry as a heating and air conditioning engineer until he was called into military service in World War II. He was a Captain in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945, served overseas in the Caribbean and in Central and South America, and on his return was assigned with his family to the Air Force Base at Fairchild Field in Spokane, WA. The family returned to Fargo in 1945, where Art became associated with the Moll Heating Co. of Fargo. He became Territorial Manager for Lennox Industries, Marshalltown, IA, in 1947, and remained with that firm until his retirement in 1974. He and his wife, May, traveled extensively in retirement, enjoying life with family and friends, and wintered many years on South Padre Island, Port Isabel, TX.

Art was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the Sons of Norway, the Elks, and the Prairie Club of the NDSU Development Association. He also enjoyed ushering at the First Lutheran Church in Fargo. He regularly went on fishing expeditions to Canada with his family and friends, and in connection with his avid interest in American History, took many side trips to places of historic and cultural interest. His fondness in western movies sprung from an early job as a silent film projectionist in his home town of Binford. He loved baseball, especially the Twins, found great pleasure in watching football with his sons, and became a big fan of the Lady Bison Basketball team. He became a neighborhood legend as an outdoor barbecue cook.

He is survived by: two sons, Michael, Circle Pines, MN, and Tom (Arlene), St. Paul, MN; one daughter, Mary (Darrell) Russell, Asheville, NC; two sisters, Helen Knapp, Jamestown, and Ruby Grover, Moorhead, MN; many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by: his wife, May; two sisters, Julia and Alice; four brothers, Gilman, Rudolph, Oscar and Iver, all formerly of Binford.
