Mrs. Julia McConnell, 92, early resident of Spencer, died Saturday at Washington, Iowa, which had been her home for a number of years, and the body was- brought to Spencer for funeral services Monday. The rites, conducted by Rev. G. R. Siemens, Pastor of the First Baptist church, were held at 2:30 o'clock at the Cobb Funeral Home.
Death was caused by catarrhal fever. Hymns sung were "Abide With Me" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Serving as casket bearers were Howard E. King, James A. King; H.E. Glover, Ed. Bender, Dwight R. Dickey and Charles Bender. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery. Members of the Spencer Eastern Star attended the services in a body.

Julia Bridgman was united in marriage January 28, 1872, to Asa F. McConnell, who came to Iowa in the spring of 1869. He was one of Clay county's early homesteaders, and later owned a farm in Gillett Grove township. They moved in Spencer following a few years residence in the country, and Mr. McConnell served for 10 years on the board of supervisors and for eight as a member of the city council. Mr. McConnell preceded his wife in death.
They were the parents of five children: Mrs. E.L. (Carrie) Kinnan, who is deceased; a child who died in infancy, Mrs. Frank L. (Minnie) Broadgate of Washington; Mrs. A.L. (Edna) Peterson of Postville, and Miss Daisy Clare of Minneapolis.
