Wesley Harrop Poole
1919-2013
Our beloved father, Wesley Harrop Poole, 93, of Boise, Idaho, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, December 13, 2013, at a local assisted living facility where he had enjoyed living for three years.
Dad was born December 28th, 1919 in Lorenzo, Idaho, the son of Guy Wesley and Blanche B. Harrop Poole. He was the second oldest child of 8 children. His early years were happy ones spent working on his family's farm until graduation from high school. Dad graduated from Idaho State University with a two year teaching certificate and taught school in Downey, Idaho.
He was truly a man of the greatest generation, serving with honor for over three years in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was primarily assigned to duty in New Guinea and the Southern Philippines. A few months after his discharge, on July 26, 1946, he married his sweetheart, Marjorie Merrill Beckstead of Swan Lake, Idaho. He was employed by the State of Idaho for 38 years serving in the job service division and became an area director retiring in 1982. When Margie passed away in 1974 he married Marilyn Talbot of Burley, Idaho. They had a wonderful life together until her untimely passing in 2002.
Dad was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving faithfully in many positions for over seventy years. He and Marilyn had the opportunity to serve a church mission to South Carolina and he served for many years in the LDS Temple in Boise. Dad had many talents and enjoyed fishing, golfing, reading and RVing, but his main interests were in spending time with his family and volunteering for service at Church. Dad was a wonderful Father and an incredible example of honor and integrity to all who knew him. He is survived by his three sons and one step son, Bradley Poole, (Christine) of Boise, Idaho; Roger Poole, (Debbie) of Murray, Utah; Mitchell Poole, (Evaly) of Boise, Idaho; and Michael Talbot of Draper, Utah. His life has been blessed with 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 20th at the LDS Chapel at 8620 Goddard Rd. in Boise. A viewing will precede the service at the church in the Relief Society room from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. Interment will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Relyea Funeral Chapel
