He was born March 31, 1905,
in Lawler to Robert R. Block
and Emma Schroeder Block.
He married Evelyn A. Schultz
Aug. 20,1933 in Bingsted. They
had two children, Kay Sloan of
Mason City and David Block
of Ames.

Block was a graduate of the
University of Northern Iowa
and the University of Iowa. He
did post graduate work at
Iowa State University and
Denver University. He was
awarded an honorary doctorate
from Buena Vista College
in 1964. A life-long
educator, Mr. Block served
schools near Big Stone City,
S.D., and Fredericksburg,
Lake Mills, Hartley and Storm
Lake in Iowa. Mr Block moved
to Storm Lake in 1937 when
he assumed the duties of
senior high principal. He served
as superintendent from
1945 to 1970. During his tenure
an addition was added to West
School, and East School and
the present senior high school
buildings were constructed.
He was a member of several
Iowa and national education
associations, was an elder of
the Presbyterian Church,
served on the Arrowhead Area
Education Agency board,
headed the local chapters of
the Salvation Army and the
American Red Cross, long
time member of the Storm
Lake Kiwanis Club, secretary
of the Northwest Iowa Corporation
for Handicapped Indigent
Children and a member
of the Chamber of Commerce
and gave his help and service
to numerous other local
and area agencies and boards.

Survivors include his wife;
daughter, son and his wife,
Elizabeth; two grandchildren,
Nathan and Erin Block of
Ames; one sister, Mrs. Ethel
Hahn of Muskego, Wis., one
brother, Victor Block of
Milwaukee, Wis. and nine
nephews and nieces.
