Son of Earl Roy Green and Nancy Catherine Hanks

The following is from my father in law, Richard Hanks Green's journals that I have possession of:

In May 1944 Jack drowned in a pond in Kaysville, Utah. He had been swimming and racing across the pond with 5 or 6 school friends who were from Layton and Clearfield. These boys tried to rescue Jack but were unable to. Howard was in the Navy , then but was home on leave at the time and he went to the pond in Kaysville and dove in many times till he finally located the body of Jack. Junior was also in the Navy at this time and he and Howard both got leave to be home for Jack's funeral. Keith was in the Army Air Corps in England and was not able to come home for Jack's funeral.

In many talks I had with my father in law on his family history he said that Jack must have hit his head on a rock when he dove in.
