Funeral services will be held for Lt. John Bernard Haas, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. B. J Haas, Neillsville, on Monday morning at 9 o'clock, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. J. A. Biegler will officiate; burial will case place in St. Mary's cemetery. John Haas was born on June 13, 1924. at Neillsville. and lived here practically all of his life. For a short time after he finished school he worked in Milwaukee, until he was of military age and then enlisted in the Air Corps. He received his education in the Neillsville schools and at Eau Claire, graduating from the Neillsville High School in 1942. He was a member of St. Mary's parish and an active member of the Holy Name Society and Sodality. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and left on Jan. 14. 1943. for Sheppard Field, Texas, where he took his elementary trainlng. From there he went tn A & M College at Stillwater, Okla.; then to San Antonio. Texas, then to Gridley Field, Pine Bluff. Ark., for his primary training. He sent to the Army Air Field in Independence, Kan., for basic training and then to Moore Field Mission. Texas, where he graduated as a pursuit pilot, receiving his wings and commission as a second lieutenant. March 12, 1944. He was home in March, 1944. on a 15-day leave and returned to Moore Field, Texas, taking special training on Matagorda Island. Texas. He was home again in April, 1944, and from here went to Richmond, Va., and then was transferred to Bradley Field. Conn., where he lost his life in an airplane crash on July 4, on Hotchkiss Beach, Branford. Conn. The body will be brought to Neillsville under military escort on Saturday. Lt. Haas is survived by his parents. Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Haas, a brother, James, and two sisters, Marilyn and Joan, all at home.
