Born in England about 1831 as he was 31 years of age when he enlisted on 25 July 1862 at Litchfield, Herkimer County, New York into the 121st New York Volunteer Infantry, also known as Upton's Regulars. He mustered in on 23 August 1862.
He was placed as a private in Capt. Irving Holcomb's Company B.
Went south with the regiment, but died on 15 December 1862 at Hagerstown, Maryland of typhoid fever.
