On June 17, 1962, she and Albert E. Grable married in Minneapolis. They moved from St. Paul, Minn., to this area in 1963 and she began her contract teaching of English at Walla Walla University in 1967. She then received her master's degree in 1983, from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Wash. In 2005, she retired from part-time contract teaching at Walla Walla Community College.
She enjoyed spending the summer months with her husband at the Walla Walla University Marine Biology Station at Rosario Beach near Anacortes, Wash., as well as traveling with her family and sharing books. She volunteered for the American Red Cross Blood Drives from the late 1980s into the 1990s; assisted with the CHIP program; tutoring; church activities including the children's Sabbath Schools; and knitting with a Walla Walla University knitting group.
Those left to mourn her loss are her husband, Al Grable at their home; her daughter, Maribeth Lynne (Donald) Dexter of Bellingham; two sons, Mark Alan Grable of Medical Lake, Wash., and Paul Mikael (Shannon) of Santa Ana, Calif.; four grandchildren, Jazmine and Cameo Torres and Alice and Tamber Grable; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father in 1971; and her mother in 2003.
Family and friends may pay their respects from 1 to 5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at Mountain View-Colonial DeWitt, 1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla Walla. The funeral service will be 10 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at the Walla Walla University Church, Fourth and Bade Streets, College Place. Dr. Larry Veverka will officiate. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
