A private service for the family was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, in the Paul Helton Chapel of Forest Lawn West Funeral Home, the Rev. Mike Young and Dr. Gerald Bearden officiated. Entombment was at Forest Lawn West Mausoleum. A memorial service followed at 3 p.m., at Westport Baptist Church, 2372 Lakeshore Road S., Denver, with a visitation one hour prior to the memorial service at the church.
Mrs. Godfrey was born Nov. 20, 1934 in Concord, daughter of the late Oscar R. and Louise Elliott Poplin.
She was a member of Westport Baptist Church and attended Woman's College of the University of North Carolina.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald C. Godfrey; daughter, Debra Hassen Jaro and husband, Michael Jaro of Charlotte; step-daughters, Penny Godfrey of Davidson and Shay Belton of Huntersville; granddaughter, Elizabeth Amran Jaro of Charlotte; siblings, James R. Poplin and wife, Nancy of East Freedom, Pa., Brenda Poplin Cripliver and husband, Steve of Lexington, and Janet Poplin Rogers and husband, Tony of Hollidaysburg, Pa.
