James Elton Ates 69, of Wade, MS, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2013 at his home in Wade. James was born on January 6, 1944 in Palestine, AR and was a graduate of East Central High School in 1962. He was a sheet metal superintendent at Ingalls Shipbuilding, where he worked for 42 years and attended Three Rivers Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed bowling in which he was in a bowling league for over 35 years and also enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time outdoors and playing cards. He always loved supporting his grandchildren's involvements in sports and followed his grandson to most all of his soccer games from recreation through college. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and he will be missed by them all.

James was preceded in death by his father, Floyd James Ates, mother, Elva Mae Ates Verrett, sister, Frances Ates Albair and niece, Regina Darlene Ates.

He is survived by his loving wife, Clara Jean Buckley Ates; daughter, Melinda (Mark) Ates Hamilton; son, Steve (Bobbie) Ates; daughter, Brandy (Clay) Ates Smith; grandchildren, Jason Hamilton and Amber Thrash, Dustin Hamilton, Sierra (John Michael) Ates Rogers, Makayla Ates and Mckynleigh Smith; great-grandchildren, Blakelyn Rogers and Tripp Hamilton; brothers, Floyd Raymond (Marva) Ates and Gary Michael (Cindy) Ates; sisters, Patsy Ates Le Burg, Sandra (Jeff) Ates Welty and Virginia (Jim) Ates Petmecky; brother-in-law, Billy A. Albair; along with numerous other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 9, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Three Rivers Assembly of God Church in Three Rivers, MS. Funeral service will be held at the church on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. Gene Emswiler and Rev. Ben Buckley officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow in the Buckley Family Cemetery in George County, MS with Jason Hamilton, Dustin Hamilton, Clay Smith, John Michael Rogers, Tony Buckley, Gary Ates and T-nu Foret serving as pallbearers.
