Mrs. Sally R. Jordan, 78, died Dec. 7, 2007. She was a resident of Victorville.
Sally was born Nov. 11, 1929, in San Diego, and moved to Victorville in 1950. Sally had retired from Contel Telephone Company in 1980, after 25 years of service.
Besides the accomplishment of being the best daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and great-aunt, she devoted her life to many community and service organizations.
She served as a commissioner for the Commission on the Status of Women, and was a volunteer since 1980 for the Child Abuse Task Force and the Battered Women's Shelter. She was one of the founders of the first domestic-violence shelter in the Victor Valley in 1981.
She served on the board of directors for 23 years at Happy Trails Children's Foundation. She served as president and treasurer for Victor Valley Women's Club.
Sally held several positions, including president, for Business and Professional Women Inc., an organization she joined in 1968. She also served thisorganization at the district level.
Sally held positions of president and vice president at the International Telephone Pioneers Association. She was on the board of directors and president of the Loan Wolfe Colony for retired telephone company personnel.
Serving on the board of directors at Victor Valley Water District, Sally was the first female president, being elected in 1985 and re-elected in 1987, 1991, 1995 and 1999. She was also president for two years at the Association of the San Bernardino County Special Districts. She served on the board of directors for California Special Districts in Sacramento and served on the organization's legislation committee.
Aide to First District Supervisor Bob Older, she was a member of the League of Women Voters and a volunteer for several political campaigns. Sally also won numerous awards,certificates and letters of appreciation and accommodations for her countless hours of volunteer and community service. As a great source of strength and pillar of the community, Sally will be deeply missed.
Sally is survived by her husband of 53 years, Ramon L. Jordan, of Victorville; brother Edmund C. Olson, of Marina Del Rey; sister Carlyn Paterson, of Los Angeles; son Ramon L. Jordan Jr., of Ellicott City, Md.; daughter Debra Ann Long, of Longmont, Colo.; son Steve L. Jordan, of Ontario; son Ron L. Jordan, of Bakersfield; daughter Valerie J. Keppel, of Avalon; daughter Ramona L. Robertson, of Felton; 16 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
Services and burial will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at Desert View Funeral Home, 11478 Amargosa Road, Victorville.
