JONES, Lois Marie McGregor, died peacefully on Monday, December 9, 2013 with her dear ones gathered nearby. Lois was born on May 15, 1927 in Bisbee, Ariz. to a copper miner, Curtis Floyd McGregor and his wife, Lois Dawson McGregor. Lois grew up to be the belle of the town, graduating from Bisbee High School and being crowned "Miss Bisbee" in 1945. Soon after, she met her "dream come true," USAF Lieutenant William A. Jones III, while working at nearby Douglas AFB and they married in 1948. Together they traveled around the world, following his career as a United States Air Force pilot. Eventually they landed in Bill's home state of Virginia. Bill was killed in a plane crash in 1969, leaving Lois with three young daughters to raise. He was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroism in Vietnam, and Lois accepted it on his behalf from President Nixon in 1970. She continued to be a devoted Air Force wife for the rest of her life, representing Bill at many official functions in his honor, the most recent being the dedication of the Col. William A. Jones III office building at Andrews Air Force Base in 2011. She also worked as the Assistant to the Executive Director of the Falls Church Chamber of Commerce for over 20 years and managed the Jones family farm in Warsaw, Va. She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. James Church in Falls Church, Va. for many years. Lois spent her last several years living in Brandermill Woods, and the family expresses deep appreciation for their tender care. Her family was the most important thing in her life. Left to treasure her memory are her three loving daughters, Anne Jones Gilfillan, Elizabeth Hart Jones and Mary Lee McGregor Jones Kuhn; two devoted sons-in-law, Rusty Gilfillan and Thomas Kuhn; her beloved grandchildren, Lee Kuhn, Jack Davisson, Marjorie McGregor Boehlert, Elizabeth and Eric Lea, Robert Gilfillan and William and Hannah Gilfillan; and her precious and adorable great-grandchildren, Rory and Maeve Gilfillan. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at St. John's Episcopal Church, located in Warsaw, Va. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Families of the Wounded Fund, P.O. Box 330, Midlothian, Va. 23113. Online condolences may be expressed at www.nelsenrichmond.com.
