Melba was first married to Frank Lee Cantonwine Sr. (1890-1919), son of Frank George & Mary Etta (Rogers/Rodgers) Cantonwine, grandson of David "Doc" & Cynthia (Irish) Cantonwine, and great-grandson of Charles and Mary Magdalena (Scholl) Cantonwine.

Melba and Frank married Sept 17, 1914 in Colorado Springs, El Paso Co., CO. They had three children, Frank Lee, Jr., Nancy, and Geraldine. Frank Lee, Sr. and Frank Lee, Jr. are buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado Springs, El Paso Co., CO. Geraldine is buried in San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery.

Two years after Frank Lee Sr.'s death in 1919, Melba married Milton Cantonwine January 1, 1921 in Colorado Springs, El Paso Co., CO. Milton was the son of Robert M. and Melissa A. (Sharp/Sharpe) Cantonwine, and grandson of Abraham and Elizabeth (White) Cantonwine. Frank Lee Sr. and Milton had been first cousins once removed. Melba and Milton then had nine more children. One of the nine, Dorothy, died at 14 months.

Melba A. Cantonwine, 87, of 12759 N. 87th St. died at Longmont United Hospital Monday. She was born July 26, 1896, in Platteville [Sand Mountain, Bibb county], Ala. to Charles and Nancy Dixon [Dickson] Neer. She married Milton Cantonwine in Colorado Springs Jan 1, 1921. He preceded her in death Oct. 18, 1970, in Longmont. She came to Colorado in 1907 from Alabama with her family. Mrs. Cantonwine belonged to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society there. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a son, David Cantonwine. Survivors include five sons . . . , three daughters . . . two sisters, Mrs. Wilber (Anna) Hayne, Longmont, and Mrs. Cody Rogers, Oxnard, Calif.; 27 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Rosary prayers will be at 8 p.m. today at Howe Chapel and Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church with the Rev. Walter Jaeger officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery [Longmont]. Howe Mortuary, Longmont is in charge of arrangements.
