Charlie Walter Payne, 91, transitioned from his earthly home to Glory December 7, 2013. He was born the sixth child of nine children (5 sisters, 3 brothers) December 24, 1921 to Tommie and Mellissa Payne of Marion, AR. He leaves a wife of 50 years, Edna R McCarley and the three children they bore: one daughter Jacqueline L Payne and two sons Eric R Payne, Sr. , Gerald C Payne all of Memphis. There are two other children from prior marriages - Charlie Mae Jones (Detroit, MI) and Perry Walter Payne (deceased) and one stepdaughter Ruth Annette McCarley (Cincinnati, OH). He leaves as well 9 grandchildren: 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; and one sibling Rosie Lee Jackson (Memphis). He accepted Christ at an early age in Arkansas, later becoming a member of Beautiful Zion Missionary Baptist Church in West Memphis, Arkansas. He was a retired truck drive. Wake services are Friday, December 13 from 5-8 p.m. at M.J. Edwards Funeral Home, 5494 Elvis Presley Blvd 38116.
