She graduated from Hellertown High School and Bethlehem Business College. Esther worked in the Hellertown-Lower Saucon school district superintendent's office for 35 years as a secretary and later the payroll clerk until her retirement in 1985. She was proud of the fact that she never took a sick day during her career and also that she had near-perfect attendance during her school years. Esther was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hellertown, where she gave generously of her time and other resources. She volunteered at the Hellertown Area Library and the New Bethany Ministries soup kitchen. She was a dedicated blood donor, receiving recognition for giving more than 10 gallons over the years. She enjoyed bird watching, gardening, needlecrafts, anything chocolate, hanging out with her friends at the the Hellertown Pool, and playing casinos with her cousin Margaret.
Surviving are her daughter, Jean Rogers (husband John Feltman) of Emmaus; son, Robert (wife Claudia Allen) of Lower Saucon; grandsons, Joel (Lauri) and Peter (Andrea) Rogers; great-grandson, Evan; brother, Arthur Bernhardt, and sister, Evelyn Patterson. She was predeceased by brother, Robert Bernhardt, as well as one dog and two cats, all named, Ginger.
Services will be 11 a.m. on Friday at Christ Lutheran Church, Hellertown. A viewing will precede the services in the church parlor from 10 a.m. The Falk Funeral Homes & Crematory, Hellertown, is in charge of arrangements. Contributions may be made in her memory to either Christ Lutheran Church, Hellertown, or the Hellertown Area Library.
