David the son of Howard J. Weller and Euretta F. Weller of Nashua NH enlisted in the US Marine Corps on May 13 1966 in Manchester NH. In Vietnam he was assigned to and serving with Company A, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.

During the beginning of June the Battalion was participating in Operation UNION II in Quang Nam and Quang Tin Provinces. On June 1, Company A was sweeping south of the Troung (2) hamlet in the Que Son District when a sniper fired several rounds at the Marines. PFC Weller was hit and wounded by the hostile rifle fire. Evacuated to the NSA station hospital in DaNang he died on the following day.
