Joseph Michael Allen, 56, of Ulster RR 2, Ulster Township, died Saturday, June 7, 2003 at the Robert Packer Hospital, in Sayre. Born Nov. 3, 1946, in Barton, N.Y., he was a son of the late Emory M. Allen Sr. and Doris E. Davidson Allen. Joseph was a graduate of SRU High School, Class of 1965. In 1966 he became employed by the Ingersoll-Rand in Athens, where he remained for 31 years until he was forced to retire due to declining health in 1997. On March 23, 1968, Joseph married the former Roseanna "Rosie" Squires Allen at the North Towanda United Methodist Church. Joseph enjoyed the outdoors, was an avid hunter and fisherman, and also enjoyed gardening, country music and playing his harmonica. Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Roseanna "Rosie" Squires Allen, at home; three daughters, Angela K. "Angie" Oakley of Athens; Rebecca Anne "Beckie" Allen of Ulster and Valeri D. Allen of Towanda; his son, Steven J. Allen and his fiancee, Amy J. Hartranft, of North Towanda; four grandsons, Dustin Allen, Brandon Oakley, Bradley Allen and Nathaniel Allen; two brothers, Emory Allen Jr. and his wife, Debra Allen, of Ulster and Raymond Allen and his wife, Donna Allen, of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.: two sisters, Hazel Barlow and her husband, Richard Barlow, of Columbia Cross Roads, RR 3; Nancy Allen and Dean Johnson of Troy; his mother-in-law, Ruth Squires of North Towanda; a sister-in-law, Eileen Allen of Towanda; Virginia and Richard Hillis of Muncy, Pa., and Mary and Robert Getz of Dushore; a sister-in-law, Julie Squires of Bryans Road, Md.; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Kasha Squires of San Antonio, Texas; a brother-in-law, Paul Squires of Lebanon, Pa.; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; a close family friend, Linda Rought Whyte; and his canine companions, Angel and Corkey. He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris E. Davidson Allen, on Sept. 25, 1988; his father, Emory M. Allen Sr., on Dec. 13, 199; a brother, Ronald L. "Ron" Allen, on Nov. 7, 2001; a niece, Kristina Mae Allen, on Dec. 24, 1986, and most recently by a nephew, Michael Blaine "Mikey" Shrimp, who died on Thursday, June 5, 2003. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, with the Rev. Walter Swetnam officiating. Interment will be in the Ulster Cemetery, Ulster. The family will receive friends Wednesday morning from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
