Born on December 8, 1923 in Crumpler, she was a daughter of the late Alvin and Icie Shrewsbury Bailey.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Louis Mitchem; a son, Alvis Rife Mitchem; and a granddaughter, Vickie Mitchem; 6 sisters; and 2 brothers.
Survivors include:
Daughter: Peggy Mitchem of Newton, NC
Son: Roger L. Mitchem of Maiden, NC
4 grandsons 2 granddaughters 11 great grandchildren 4 great-great grandchildren
Sister: Barbara Beggs of Princeton
2 brothers: Lawrence Bailey of Paisley, FL Mack Bailey of Hebron, NC
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Rev. Ronald Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
