Son of Levi Elmer and Clara Sylvester
On October 17, 1857, Lorenzo married Maria Redfield.
Lorenzo mustered in as a Private, Company K, 6th Regiment Vermont Infantry on July 13, 1863. He transferred to Company A October 16, 1864, and was wounded at the Battle of Cedar Creek (Virginia) a few days later. According to his obituary, Lorenzo was wounded "on the day of Sheridan's famous ride." Lorenzo transferred to the Veterans Reserve Corps on April 25, 1865, then mustered out September 4, 1865.
An obituary was published in the Vermont Phœnix. (Brattleboro, Vermont) March 22, 1907'
