Mary Lewis was born 1820 in Nelson County, Kentucky. She was a daughter of John Lewis (1786-1845) and Rebecca Miller Lewis (1789-1860).
Mary married Creed F. Farris on 11 February 1842 in Hardin County, Kentucky. They had at least 10 children between 1843 and 1859. The last child was born the same year Creed Farris died, 1859. They lived in Larue County on the Salt Lick Creek near Diggs.

In 1850 when the LaRue County Census was taken, Creed T. Farria was family 393. He was 40 years old a Farmer born in Kentucky. His wife, Mary, was 30. The children were: Jno., 7; Sarah A., 6; Nancy J., 4; E. B., 2; and Martha, 7 months of age. Creed's mother, Mary Farris, age 75 years was living with the family. Also a Marion Beard, age 24 and a Ellen Millered, age 35.

In 1860 when the Nelson County Census was taken, Mary Farris was head of household and 40 years of age. Her Post Office was Rolling Fork. The children were:

Elizabeth Faris 12
Martha Faris 10
Virginia Faris 8
Louisa Faris 7
Wm Faris 5 (Wm. Taylor)

In 1870 Mary A. Farris was 49, Children at home were: William, 26, farmhand; Mary E., 21, farmhand; Green C.,farmhand; Fountain, 16, farmhand; and John D., 13, farmhand.

In 1880 she was 59 and 3 of her boys lived with her; Wm. H., 36; Fountain R., 25; and John T., 23.
By 1900 shw was living at Raywick, Marion County, Kentucky. She was 80 years of age and she was living with her son, James H. Morris, 45 and his wife, Mollie.

Mrs. Mary Farris, who had been sick for some time died Nov. 5th and was buried the 6th at Jones cemetery . She leaves to mourn her death five children and two sisters Mrs. Sallie Hedgespeth of this place and Mrs. Bettie Elliott of Larue, besides her many friends.
