George used the name Mayer when he was married to Caroline Jaeggi. Caroline and
3 children all died of diphtheria. They are buried together in the Saints Peter
and Paul Cemetery in Sherrill, Iowa. After Caroline died, George married her
sister Louisa. He then changed the spelling of the name to Meyer.
