Avro Lancaster III (#EE195) aircraft, Code GZ-B, with its aircrew of seven airmen of 12 Squadron, went down into the sea off the coast of the Netherlands during a night operation against Cologne, Germany.
The seven airmen who perished in the crash were-
RCAF Flying Officer Howard Cedric TREHERNE,
RAFVR Sergeant Mervyn Barnaby NOBLE,
RAFVR Sergeant Francis Donovan AYERST,
RAF Squadron Leader Frederick John KNIGHT,
RAF Flight Sergeant Frank BIRKIN,
RAFVR Sergeant Ernest Frederick LAWRENCE and
RAFVR Sergeant James Roy BOXALL.
