Sara Bryant-Akens, age 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, May 26, 2008.
Sara was a native of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., born on Oct. 5, 1925, to Frank and Jeanette Ogelsby. She was a devoted mom and a loving grandma. She was known as a kind and generous woman with a great passion for the game of bingo. She also enjoyed cooking for her family. She was a bus driver for the Okaloosa County school system for over 30 years, as well as a local business owner.
Sara was preceded in death by her first husband, Dock L. Bryant Sr.; her second husband, Harry Akens; two daughters, Ella Jean Heiser and Betty Sue Cunningham; and two grandsons, Chris Lavon Bryant and Gary Dewayne Bryant.
She is survived by a son, Ernest Lavon Bryant and daughter-in-law, Jessie, of Mary Ester, Fla.; daughter, Jean Colameta of Fort Walton Beach; son, Dock Lee (Shorty) Bryant Jr. and daughter-in-law, Trish, of Fort Walton Beach; son, Danny Lavon Bryant and daughter-in-law, Debbie, of Fort Walton Beach; stepdaughter, Jenny Akens of Crystal River, Fla.; sister, Bonnie Galford of Crestview; as well as 13 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Sara will be dearly missed and we will keep her memory in our hearts always.
A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, May 29, at Emerald Coast Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 30, at 11 a.m. at Emerald Coast Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Vale officiating. Interment will be at Wright Cemetery immediately following the service.
