David Monroe West was born in Hilliard, Franklin County, Ohio, to Alpinus and Elizabeth Young West.
He moved to Harp Township, DeWitt County, Illinois, where he began to farm. There he met and married Susan Clara Dillow on October 28, 1885. The couple moved to Gibson City, Ford County, Illinois, around 1891. They then moved to Solomon, near Weldon, Nixon Township, DeWitt County, Illinois, and farmed for many years. David and Susan worked hard and raised six children (listed below).
David had a stroke in April, 1938, and died at his home on April 28, 1938 at the age of 77.
