In November 1959 Geral Wood, the only daughter of James and Imogene Wood, became ill and contracted viral pneumonia and died. She is pictured here on the veranda of the home where the Woods lived. Orrin and Ruby Walters are pictured on the balcony of their apartment. It affected the whole American Community to lose a pretty, spunky, red-headed girl. A memorial service was held and the entire American Dependents School attended along with many other American Ex-patriots and Iranian acquaintances of the Wood family. Arrangements were made and Jim and Imogene left with the body of their little girl to bury her in Kaysville, UT. The baby, Harlan, accompanied them but Roger (age 9) and Steven (age 15) were left in Iran to continue in school. Orrin and Ruby Walters took the oversight of these two boys during the sad trip the parents undertook. They were a great comfort to the boys and assured that meals were taken, prayers offered, and needs met while the parents were away. There was great wisdom and assurance shared during this time affording comfort and counsel to help the boys deal with the tragedy of the loss of their sister. Compassion and love endeared us to this couple who were there when we needed their strength and care.
