Rev. M. E. Helland delivered the message. Vocal solos were sung by Mrs. S. M. Dahleen and M. G. Melsness. Pall bearers were H. C. Omholt, Melvin Sagness, K. K. Haugen, Olaf Lerud, Jesse Paulson and Ole Johnson, Jr. Interment was in the Trinity Lutheran cemetery.
Ole C. Sparstad was born on April 23, 1869, in Dennison, Goodhue county, the son of Christopher and Emma Sparstad, and passed away at his home in Sacred Heart on March 3, 1946 at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 10 days, after being confined to his home in failing health since June 29, 1945.
After attending district schools, he came to Granite Falls where he began the carpenter trade. In 1892 he came to Sacred Heart where he took up photography and remained in the business for 35 years. The Sparstads operated the Sacred Heart Hotel for 17 years, retiring on April 1, 1944.
Mr. Sparstad has held many offices of public trust, serving as mayor of Sacred Heart for 17 years and also as village recorder for a few terms. He served as director in the Farmers Milling company and Sacred Heart Telephone company.
Mr. Sparstad was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran church. When the church was built he did all the architectural work on the church edifice. He has served in various offices of the congregation since its organization.
He was married on October 24, 1895 to Olina Hamre. Of the six children born to this union two sons, Berdell and Odean, preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his wife, and the following children: Florence (Mrs Curtis Omholt) and Elynore of Sacred Heart, Sylvester of Kenyon and Dorothy of Minneapolis; also two grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Lena Rustad of Faribault, Minn.
