She attended local schools until her teen years and then graduated from Alliance High School, Alliance, Ohio, in 1945. Following graduation, she attended and graduated from Jewish Hospital School of Nursing of Cincinnati, Ohio in 1949. She then attended The Ohio State University for a period of time. Polly worked in several medical facilities until she was employed as a school nurse for the Gallipolis City School for the last 21 years of her career.
Polly was united in marriage with Manning E. Wetherholt in 1952. He preceded her in death in 1997. They were the parents of three daughters. Polly loved her 6 grandchildren and 2 great-granddaughters,
Polly passionately served her community and was active in several local organizations including Keep Gallia Beautiful, Triad, Gallipolis Neighborhood Watch, French 500 Free Clinic, Lutheran Food Services, and Grace United Methodist Church food kitchen.
In 2011, Polly was awarded the Hometown Heroes Volunteer of the Year award.
Polly was a member of Rio Grande Community College Board for 10 years holding positions as vice chairman and chairman and serving on various committees.
In 2008, she was the recipient of the “Outstanding Achievement in Trusteeship” award of the Ohio Association of Community Colleges.
