Harold Edward Rood, 90, of Spring Township, died December 8, 2013, in Reading Hospital and Medical Center.
He was the husband of Hope T. (Thompson) Rood.
Born in Shickshinny, Luzerne County, he was a son of the late Ira M. and Nettie B. (McHenry) Rood.
Harold was a graduate of Temple University, earning his masters degree in education.
He was a U. S. Army Veteran serving in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe, where he served in the 26 Infantry Division, General Patton's 3rd Army. During his time in the service he earned a Bronze Star, Good Conduct-American Theater Medal, EAME Theater Service Medal with four Bronze Stars and the Victory Medal.
Harold was employed for 35 years as an administration director for Reading Muhlenberg Career and Technology Center, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, West Lawn.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, David Rood, Sinking Spring and Jane Lantz, Shakope, MN.; one sister, Carol Ketchum, Durham, NC.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 10 step-grandchildren, Priscilla Kovalsky, wife of Kenneth Kovalsky, M.D., Bonita Springs, FL; John Cullen, Jr., husband of Susan Denaro, Wyomissing; Jeffrey Cullen, Wyomissing; David Cullen, husband of Jill Haley, Exeter; Hope Peek, wife of Eric Peek, Chevy Chase, MD; Virginia Rush, wife of Jeffrey Rush, Wyomissing; Peter Cullen, Atlanta, GA; Mark Cullen, M.D., husband of Michelle Cullen, M.D., The Dalles, OR; Matthew Cullen, West Reading; and Sarah Reed, wife of Matthew Reed, Kutztown; and 17 step-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two siblings, Donald Rood and Mildred Shearer.
Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Peters U.C. Church, 2901 Curtis Rd., West Lawn, PA 19609. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
