Sarah Marie (Squeeky) Mendez, 81, of Decatur, IN died on December 8, 2013 at Adams Heritage Nursing Center in Monroeville, IN. Sarah was born on August 18, 1932 in Adams County, IN to the late J. Carl and Ada (Hakes) Hower. On September 6, 1947 she married Blas G. Mendez.

Sarah was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. She was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution and V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary. She worked for Thunderbird Products for 37 years.

Sarah is survived by her husband of 66 years, Blas G. Mendez of Decatur, IN; nine children, Barbara C. (Mark) Corral, Dolores A. (D.J.) Lopez, Jesse M. (Cindy) Mendez, Lee Andra (Frank) Aguon, Anthony B. (Ingrid) Mendez all of Decatur, Patricia E. (Dennis) Stapleton of Milwaukee, WI, Kathryn A. (Jeff Gaskill) Hake of Decatur, Anita M. (Don) Main of Indianapolis, Annette M. (John) Liederbach of Decatur; 25 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Sarah was the last surviving child of Carl and Ada Hower and was preceded in death by a son Joseph M. Mendez and a grandson Damian M. Corral.

Please join the family for visitation and sharing from 1:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2013 at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy F.H. with reciting of the Holy Rosary at 1:30.

Calling also on Saturday, Dec. 14th from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at the St. Mary's Parish Hall followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. Father Patrick Joseph and Deacon Jerry Kohrman will be officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
