John served as a Private, Company D, 1st Delaware Infantry during the Civil War.

He enlisted in the 1st Delaware on August 26, 1861 for a three year term. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being 22 years old, a Farmer, and residing in Milford, Delaware.

John "Died Of Disease" in Washington, D.C. during the war.

Brother of James G. Manlove who also died during the War.

Per P Worley, documentation has been located that John died from catarrah and diarrhea in the Armory Square Hospital, Washington, DC during the Civil War.
