James served as a Private, Company D, 1st Delaware Infantry during the Civil War.

He enlisted in the 1st Delaware on August 28, 1861 for a 3 year term. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being 24 years old, a Farmer, and resided in Milford, Delaware.

James "Died Of Disease" in Washington, D.C. during the war.

Information provided by P Worley: Civil War document shows that James died 29 Dec 1862 in the Kalorama Hospital, Washington, DC from small pox.

Brother of John Lewis Manlove who also died during the war.

It's unknown if James is interred here or in the US Soldiers' and Airmen's Home National Cemetery, Washington, D.C. ..... Where he also has a headstone.
