James served as a Private, Company D, 1st Delaware Infantry during the Civil War.

He enlisted in the 1st Delaware on August 28, 1861 for a 3 year term. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being 24 years old, a Farmer, and resided in Milford, Delaware.

James "Died Of Disease" in Washington, D.C. during the war.

Information provided by P Worley: Civil War document shows that James died 29 Dec 1862 in the Kalorama Hospital, Washington, DC from small pox.

Brother of John Lewis Manlove who also died during the war.
