Steven E. Weinstein, 68, a Native Atlantan, died on January 2nd of a heart attack.

Born on April, 21, 1943, he attended E. Rivers Elementary, Northside High School, Marist, and graduated from his greatest source of pride, The University of Georgia, to which he was much devoted, with the Terry School of Business and the Bulldogs being a major focus of his life.

A retired real estate and transportation executive, Stevie, as he was known to his countless friends, devoted his final years to his loving wife Jackie, his beloved family and several charities, especially Camp Sunshine, which provides recreation to children with cancer.

His daughters Julie and Alyson said, "We will forever remember his caring soul, his unending love for his wife, his children and his grandchildren. His love for the Georgia Bulldogs, Athens, Willie Nelson, The White House restaurant, The Varsity, and Camp Sunshine. He loved being with his friends, who will affectionately remember him as 'Bubba,' a man who 'would give you the shirt off his back.' He was beyond generous. He was a giving, sweet, loyal family man and friend, a dedicated Georgia Bulldog fan, and he loved Atlanta."

Stevie's oldest and best friend, Steve Selig, remembered him as "the kindest, gentlest person I have ever known. He loved his family and friends. Other than being with them, his happiest time was being at Sanford Stadium watching his beloved Bulldogs play between the Hedges."

Another dear friend, Fulton County Commissioner, Robb Pitts, called Stevie "the kindest, most giving person I have ever met. He was part of my family. He loved helping feed the homeless at Hal's restaurant and providing the transportation for the annual tradition. He was truly a warm and loving person."

Besides his family, friends, and UGA, his greatest loves were his cats, good parties, fine food, and his regular lunches with his old friends going back to high school with whom he stayed in touch regularly. Stevie loved life, lived it to the fullest, and generously shared anything he had with others.

At UGA, he was a member of Phi Epsilon Pi fraternity. He was confirmed at, and a longtime member of, The Temple, and served on the board of The Terry College of Business and Camp Sunshine. He was sworn in by President Jimmy Carter in Washington, DC to be a commissioner of the White House Conference on Small Business. He was an early Carter supporter and a veteran of the famous Peanut Brigades. During his years as a businessman, he was the president of Second Realty, Inc., and owner of Sunbelt Transportation, which included a limousine company, Where Magazine, a travel agency and Atlanta Airport Shuttle. He retired in 1998.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie Reich Weinstein; children: Julie Weinstein Cohen, Alyson Weinstein Roach (Shane); step-children, John Reich and Michael Reich; grandchildren, Reid and Matthew Cohen and Emily and Courtney Roach, all of Atlanta; brother, Tony Meyers (Barbara); nieces and nephews: Brooke and Zachary Meyers all of Knoxville, Tennessee and Christina Meyers of Gaithersburg, Maryland.
